If ever there were a cigar that took the "don't judge a book by its cover" motto to heart, it would be the Leaf by Oscar. This ugly duckling has caught many a'smoker off-guard, as it replaces the conventional cellophane protective layer with an additional layer of gnarly tobacco!
The Leaf by Oscar collection is a collaborative effort between Oscar Valladares and Jim "Island Jim" Robinson. The cigars first debuted as an exclusive for Jim's Pittsburgh-based retail location during the early 2010s, quickly expanding (due to widespread acclaim throughout the craft cigar market) to become a full-fledged national release.
The concept revolves around a similar core recipe of all-Honduran binder/fillers, swapping the wrapper for a total of four unique recipes: Leaf by Oscar Sumatra, Leaf by Oscar Maduro, Leaf by Oscar Connecticut, and Leaf by Oscar Corojo. With the Leaf by Oscar Sumatra cigar, the all-Honduran interior blend is secured in an especially oily Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper. The end result amounts to a medium-full body and loads of flavor through every draw. Expect to find standout notes of citrus, cedar, peppered toast, pretzel dough, and toasted caramel. Cigar enthusiasts come for the unique presentation, and return time and again for the dependable flavor and construction.
