Legend has it that the first use of tobacco in the land of Nicaragua was practiced in the form of medicine by the early culture's 'El Brujito', aka 'Witch Doctor'. These pre-Columbian settlers carved images of El Brujito into stone, which has now become a sign of honor for today's Nicaraguan people.
Now, Drew Estate has immortalized this iconic image, showcasing the design in true rustic fashion on their newest release - Nica Rustica. Created to honor the humble beginnings of the mysterious tobacco leaf, the Nica Rustica offers a cigar true to its roots. Mottled and gnarled, a dark Connecticut Broadleaf Mediums wrapper conceals a Mexican San Andreas Negro binder, and filler tobacco of Estelà and Jalapa, Nicaragua. The Broadleaf wrapper and San Andreas binder are two of my personal favorite types of leaf. Thick, voluminous smoke. Earthy, leathery and full bodied. Leaves a delicious syrupy finish to enjoy well into the next puff. There's always space in my humidor for more of these.
