Oliva Serie V Melanio
A true modern classic.
Roughly half a decade after Oliva Cigars elevated their game to new heights with the debut of the full-bodied Oliva Serie V, they kept the ball a'rolling, launching the Oliva Serie V Melanio cigar as a more sophisticated alternative in 2012. Upon its release, rave reviews flooded in from critics and consumers alike, eventually culminating in the prestigious award of Cigar Aficionado's No. 1 Cigar of the Year in 2014.
Oliva named their masterpiece after family patriarch Melanio Oliva, who first grew tobacco in Cuba during the 1800s. They began with a similar core recipe as the original Serie V, including well-aged leaves from Nicaragua throughout the binder and filler. However, the Melanio cigar focuses more on the sweet and nuanced characteristics of the country's northernmost Jalapa growing region (as opposed to the more fiery Estelí region). Finally, the Melanio is wrapped in a red-hued Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, amounting to one of the more sophisticated Nicaraguan experiences available in humidors today.

Rich with Nicaraguan character yet complex enough for the seasoned aficionado, the Melanio is medium-plus to medium-full in body, offering warm characteristics of freshly roasted coffee bean, cabinet baking spices, umami, and touches of sweet caramel.

I had to put a new grill together and while I did I enjoyed this stick. The reason I mentioned putting the grill together is because the melanio I smoked while doing it was so memorable. The construction was on point and almost always is and the flavor was great! I can only describe it as like an earthy smooth smoke. I have no issues with keeping one of these in the rotation every now and then!
