Drew Estate Undercrown Shade
Many cigar fans are familiar with the story of how the Drew Estate Undercrown cigar came to be'it is a cigar that was 'Born on the factory floor,' as Drew Estate puts it. Their rollers were smoking too many of the prized Liga Privada cigars and restrictions had to be made. Consequently, the rolling team developed a new cigar based on their love of the Liga, using similar tobaccos that were much more readily available'this cigar became the Liga Undercrown.
Now, after a whopping 4 years of fanfare over the hearty maduro, Drew Estate has unveiled a new variant: Undercrown Shade. As with its predecessor, the Shade was again 'Born on the factory floor,' using the same team of rollers that helped create the original Undercrown. This time around, the rollers were tasked with creating a blend to suite the tastes of Master Blender Willy Herrera, which is no small feat. After more than a year of trial and error, a superior Connecticut blend emerged, showing just the right amount of Undercrown body, with the finesse of a finely-tuned, delicate Connecticut profile.
The Undercrown Shade features a totally new blend, using an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, Sumatra binder, and fillers of Dominican Criollo 98 and Nicaraguan Criollo & Corojo tobaccos. This is a medium-bodied smoke, with flavors of sweet tea, honey, barnyard hay, cream, and vanilla. Let's just say you don't have to be a diehard Connecticut fan to enjoy this one!
