Southern Draw Kudzu
Southern Draw Cigars hails from Austin, Texas, bringing the bygone notion of the “Southern Gentleman” to the craft cigar culture. Founded by U.S. veterans, they’ve created a vibe of honor and respect — built around the simple, yet often-overlooked quality of a perfect draw.
To accomplish this, Southern Draw works in collaboration with industry veteran A.J. Fernandez and his Tabacalera Fernandez factory in Estelí, Nicaragua — tediously testing every batch of hand-rolled cigars (through a special draw-testing machine) to ensure they meet their exacting standards.
The brand’s inaugural offering is titled “Kudzu” — a special blend that strives to perfectly compliment the robust styles of other craft intoxicants. Aged, Cuban-seed Nicaraguan tobaccos are concealed under a special, double-fermented, Habano Oscuro wrapper; with the final, rolled cigars undergoing an additional aging process to allow the blend to marry and mature. Full flavors of cabinet spices, baker’s cocoa, and freshly cut cedar abound — which are complimented to perfection with recommended pairings of brown ales, barrel-aged stouts, port wine, barrel-aged rum, and single barrel bourbon.
