Protocol Blue
The original Protocol cigar; aka Protocol Blue; aka Protocol Habano; first debuted in the summer of 2015 as an homage to the law enforcement backgrounds of its creators. The cigars come from Cubariqueño Cigar Company, a boutique outfit that has rapidly gained a cult following (perhaps an understatement) in craft cigar circles across the country.
With Protocol Blue, the company didn't set out to reinvent the wheel; instead, a traditional Nicaraguan-based Habano was crafted at the burgeoning La Zona factory in Estelí (best known for producing Espinosa Premium Cigars). But the cigar ain't your granddaddy's Habano, as the all-Nicaraguan filler boasts a hefty combination of four ligero leaves (the strongest tobacco priming) from the Estelí and Jalapa regions! This fiery core is then bound in Nicaraguan Habano and finalized in an Ecuadorian Habano Oscuro wrapper. The end result is a powerful expression that manages to balance strength and flavor in astonishing unison.
